the face of
Screen Make-Up
and Effects Artists
working in Ireland

A representative group of dedicated members who uphold the interests of Irish Screen Make Up and Effects Artists in Ireland, while encouraging a sense of belonging and solidarity.

The Irish Screen Make-up and Effects (ISME) Guild was founded in 2018

Who can join

ISME guild?

Irish Screen Make-up and Effects Guild welcomes make-up and prosthetic artists who work within the Make-up and/or Prosthetic Departments in the Irish film industry.

Applicants should have been active within the industry in the last 5 years, and should apply at their current working credited title.

ISME guild will always consider membership applications solely based on film and television work experience. Applicants are asked to show evidence of relevant experience when determining the appropriate grade within the ISME guild.

Please see ISME’s code of practice to be agreed to and followed by each member.

If the applicant has little or no professional work experience in the industry, they can join our trainee database providing they are able to show certificates or diplomas from relevant courses. It will then be possible to apply for membership and change grades within the guild as the necessary credits allow

ISME Committee

The Irish Screen Make-up and Effects (ISME) guild is an all-inclusive, non-political organisation which welcomes into its membership all qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, or age.

The same of course goes for the ISME Committee which is staffed by volunteer members and aims to be representative of all grades within Irish Screen Make-up and Effects.

It is an active committee and as well as having representatives for each grade, we have a Media Officer, Education and Training Officer, Technology Officer, Screen Guilds Ireland Rep and SIPTU Rep, all supported by our Chair, Vice Chair and Administration Rep. A busy team! Full committee meetings are held quarterly over Zoom or in person.

All our Committee Members are actively working as Irish Screen Make Up and Effects Artists in Ireland.

The committee is rotated annually with each role voted upon by full members at the ISME AGM

Inclusion in

ISME Guild

The Irish Screen Make-up and Effects (ISME) guild is an all-inclusive, non-political organisation which welcomes into its membership all qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, or age.

ISME guild will always consider full membership applications solely based on film, television, commercial or other related work experience. Applicants are asked to show evidence of relevant experience when determining the appropriate grade within the ISME guild. If the applicant has no professional work experience in the industry, they can join our trainee database providing they are able to show certificates or diplomas from relevant courses. It will then be possible to apply for membership and change grades within the guild as the necessary credits allow. No other criteria are relevant.

The Committee, Treasurer, Secretary and Chair are all voluntary offices. All members are invited to join the Committee should they wish to do so, and applicants of all grades will be considered equally and voted on by full members at the AGM. Ideally there should be some experienced members on the Committee to offer advice informed by knowledge of the industry, balanced with representation of all grades.

As a guild we recognise the difficulties that many from under-represented groups find when trying to navigate their career path into the film and television industry. We aim to work with other industry agencies dedicated to establishing those new routes into the creative industries and in particular the Make-up Department. This page will be updated as we make progress.
