These courses cover a range of hard and soft skills to facilitate make-up artists of all grades in the film and TV sector. From tech and administrative skills, to facial hair and prosthetic application.

Tackling Bullying and Harassment in the Arts and Creative Sectors

  • Tacking Bullying and Harassment is an online course self-led course for all professionals working in the arts and creative sectors.

    This course in collaboration with Safe to Create, is designed to help you recognise and address harassment and bullying behaviours in yourself and others. In the Arts and Creative sector.

    This course will:

    Help you understand the benefits of nurturing a workplace free from harassment and bullying
    Show how you are responsible for your own behaviour towards others
    Help you to recognise incidents of harassment and bullying
    Identify the difference between harassment and bullying
    Offer guidance on how to challenge harassment and bullying in the workplace

    At the end of the course, you will need to answer 10 questions to check your understanding. You will be asked to take a pledge to help support the arts and creative sectors’ commitment to tackle and prevent harassment and bullying.

Addressing Unconscious Bias: Basic Awareness for the Arts and Creative Sectors

  • Addressing Unconscious Bias: Basic Awareness in the Workplace is an online course self-led course for all professionals working in the arts and creative sectors.

    This course in collaboration with Safe to Create, is designed to help you understand what unconscious bias is, how it might manifest itself at work and how to challenge your assumptions to promote greater diversity and inclusion.

    Raising awareness of our unconscious biases helps reduce their impact, however it does not eliminate them. This course explores theory as well as strategies to help tackle its impact at work. Staying alert to our unconscious biases is an ongoing process that might involve refreshing or extending our awareness on a regular basis via continued development opportunities.

    By the end of this course, you will:

    Understand what unconscious biases are and why we have them
    Understand how they are formed and when they are most likely to be triggered at work
    Understand how our unconscious biases impact our decision making
    Understand how our unconscious biases affect our behaviour
    Understand the benefits that recognising and working to address our unconscious biases have for our work and our audiences

Being an Active Bystander in the Arts and Creative Sectors

  • Online - Self lead

  • Being an Active Bystander in the Workplace is an online course self-led course for all professionals working in the arts and creative sectors.

    This course in collaboration with Safe to Create, is designed to empower people to challenge unacceptable behaviour that may have become normalised in the arts and creative sectors. The course aims to explain the role of an active bystander, identify forms of inappropriate behavior, demonstrate how to be an active bystander safely and the positive effect this can have in the workplace.

    By the end of this course, you should be able to:

    Explain the role on an active bystander and why it is important
    Identify all forms of inappropriate behavior
    Demonstrate how to be an active bystander with an understanding of the breadth of possible intervention strategies
    Recognise how being an active bystander can influence and affect a positive workplace culture
    Recognise the importance of only intervening when it is safe to do so

Facial Hair Application for the Film & TV Drama Industry

    The materials and tools needed in the application of facial hair
    The application and removal of lace pieces
    The process of laying on and removal of facial hair

    Participants will be come away with a broad knowledge of the history of facial hair on screen. They will be familiar with the products, tools and materials used to apply and remove facial hair. They will be familiar with the introductory skills required to apply and remove facial hair.

  • This 2-day Facial Hair Application course is aimed at junior make-up artists working in the in the Film and TV Drama Industry.

Well-being, mental health in the film industry image - course by screen ireland

Well-being, Mental Health & Resilience for Busy Working Crew in the Screen Sector

  • This course will run for 3 hours on Tuesday, 20th September 2022 from 6:30pm-9:30pm

  • This online course run by the National Talent Academies: Film & TV Crew Academy East is suitable for all crew members who want to understand how they can support themselves and others with their well-being and mental health while working on a Production. It will be delivered by Matt Longley who is the co-founder of 6ft From The Spotlight which is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting crew across the creative industries.
    Minding Creative Minds is an organisation established to offer a free 24/7 wellbeing & support programme for the Irish Creative Sector. A Q&A intro session to the organisation will take place as part of the 3 hour course.

Screen Pass: Health & Safety Training Course

  • Screen Pass is an online self-led health and safety training course that is available free of charge for all professionals working in the Irish screen sector.

    The Screen Pass training course, which was developed on the back of the new Health & Safety guide for the sector published in late 2021, contains key information on preventing accidents and encouraging a positive health and safety culture on set. This training course was developed with input from key industry stakeholders and professionals including Karen Cummins, Health & Safety Consultant with the Chris Mee Group, representatives from Screen Guilds of Ireland and Jo Homewood, Line Producer.

    The course content covers critical topics such as:
    Promoting a safety culture on set
    Duties and responsibilities of employers and employees
    Hazard identification
    Risk assessment
    Personal health and well-being.
